After spending 12 years behind bars, including two years in solitary confinement for crimes he committed as a young man, Joshua Proby’s walks in his purpose by using his platform and gift to uplift those who are in prison as well as those who have built prisons mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Before surrendering his life to God author and speaker Joshua Proby was living a life that endorsed money, women, and anything that kept him from facing his deepest pains. At the age of 22, Joshua was sentenced to twelve years in prison for armed robbery and burglary.  His time in prison allowed him to identify the root of where his problems stemmed from, discern God’s voice and allowed God to inspire in him an important message for the world. Joshua wants the world to know that imprisonment happens beyond the bars of a jail cell, and Jesus is the key to setting our souls free from whatever form of bondage we struggle with.  Joshua’s story gives hope to weary souls, and his mission is to share the Good News: Jesus came to set every captive free, and the freedom we seek can be found at the foot of the cross.

Today’s Purpose Man: What is life like after surrendering to God?

Joshua Proby: One word is PEACE, the peace that I have is amazing and I am able to be creative with thoughts that I did not think before I could do.

How important is it for men to have a reliable support system? I can not stress enough the importance of support. Many black men don’t have that growing up. My support came from my wife; she encouraged me and helped me face the things I did not want to face. That support alone was enough for me to see myself in a better light.

What advice or encouragement would you like to share with those who feel as though they are unable to live a good life after being incarcerated? I would tell them to believe not in the help that you think one can give you. But to believe in themselves enough to prove those who say you can’t wrong.

You just released a book “From Prison to Spiritual Peace”. Tell us about this book? From prison to spiritual peace is a book that not only speaks about physical prison, but displays how we all enter mental, emotional, and spiritual prisons at some point in our lives that we must be free from. This book also gives a deep understanding of how to overcome those prisons and live in peace.
