Since 2015 I’ve been trying to find the proper way to use my voice. After experiencing the stillbirth of my son, unbeknownst, I battled with depression. Not knowing how I was feeling because talking about mental health in my household growing up was taboo. After long talks with God about feelings and emotions I never felt before, along with therapy sessions, ideas moved rapidly through my head about talking openly about Mental Health.

We all have a voice that others need to hear. Yes, it’s difficult to share your story, but your story could be the one that saves someone from attempting Suicide. It’s okay to talk about your experiences with Mental Health. If you come from a background of not talking about emotions and mental well being, you are the one to end that cycle.

We’re all speaking up loudly about the racial injustice in our country, which has caused traumatic experiences, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Anxiety for the African American community. Seeing murder videos shared on the internet isn’t good for our mental health. A Global Pandemic is also still happening right now, so in turn, the lockdown has stripped away the routines and mechanisms needed to manage mental health. Nevertheless, you have to unplug from everything sometimes for the sake of mental well-being. Remove yourself for a day or two from social media. Even though you’re working from home, use that PTO for a mental health day. If you’re feeling uneasy being in the house all day, take a walk for thirty minutes to an hour to clear your head. Invest in a good pen and notebook to write out your thoughts! Lastly, sometimes just unplugging the Mental makes a world of difference and it doesn’t matter if it’s a couple of seconds or a week, take the time you need to realign your Mental well being! A lot is going on right now, and many of us are not okay.
